For the past couple of weeks we have been talking about blogging. We have covered why blogging is important and the parts and pieces of a blog.
Now we want to address the top three questions that we hear from business owners who are anticipating starting a blog or recently started blogging.
Here are the most frequently asked questions we get from new bloggers:
Frequency – How often should I blog?
The more the better! If you love to write and can blog daily, that would be amazing! Most of us are not that lucky… Weekly blogging is recommended; however, consistency is key. You have to start somewhere, and anything is better than nothing. So, we tell people to start by committing to just once a month. Once you get the hang of it, increase to twice a month, and eventually once a week.
Length – What is the typical length of a good blog post?
We recommend blog posts between 300 and 600 words in length. People are busy and don’t have time to read very lengthy posts; however, they are also looking for value, so keep it to the point while providing your readers with useful information.
Content – What should I write about?
We recommend starting with your most frequently asked questions. What do clients and customers ask you repeatedly? Think about the burning questions you get during consultations. Turn your answers into articles. These usually make great blog posts, as well as other content, plus they give you a resource to direct people to in the future.
Another area to focus on would be the services you provide, because this is obviously your area of expertise. However, DO NOT write a sales pitch. A blog post is not a sales page; it’s an informational or entertaining article.
Finally, if appropriate, share your stories. Write about case studies you have done, or experiences you have had. These types of posts are often the most interactive and interesting.
